District-9

Went off to see this last night and thought a few fellow film fans here might enjoy it so here's a brief synopisis.

It's an amalgamation of a number of different films... Alien Nation, The Fly and to a degree Iron Man, but in all that's no bad thing. The combination works, and works really well. Obviously there are the in your face parallels between South Africa's racist apartheid and the slum treatment that the visting aliens are shown here.

The characetrs are fine, with Wikus Van De Merwe coming across initially as a bit of an innefectual slimeball, but then the audience warming to him somewhat. It is though the aliens, or prawns, that you'll really be rooting for. As they are abused by society and individuals you just want them to stand up and fight back a little. First time I;ve seen death by pig and almost wet myself laughing... but less of my perversions...

That fight starts here... but will ultimately end in the sequel District-10 and I can't wait for that film to be released. I just hope it still has director Neill Blomkamp at the helm.

Dserivative, but still frackin wonderful.
